Painting plein air and studio work for art to live with.

Darrel McPherson

Luminoius artist McPherson is a member of the Oil Painters of America, San Diego Visual Artist Guild and the American Society of Botanical Artists. Darrel paints in the mode of the impressionists in traditional California style landscapes. Darrel paints the inland lakesand trails such as Lake Hodges and Lake Dixon as well as the Pacific coastal areas

Darrel started painting back in the sixties under the guidance of Robert Thomas, iconic painter and collector.  Darrel's early work fused abstract with spiritual themes in the symbolist manner. He continued painting under the direction of Mr. Thomas at Indiana University and later studied art in Tennessee at the University of Memphis. While in Memphis Darrel painted weekly with John Torina (Memphis College of Art), Tom Foster and other Memphian impressionists.

Over several decades he has developed his art into atmospheric projections of landscapes capturing the essence of the moment.  The works have focused on the California landscapes and botanical constructions in traditional romantic form.  His is a style of luminious painting developed by the use of form within transparent color capturing the mode of the moment. Darrel's influences also include early California artist Edgar Payne and his recent California associations Daryl Millard and the late western artist and friend, Guy Bernardo.

Paintings are layered in suspended colors giving depth and light to the piece. All of the works are painted outdoors or within natural sunlight.

"My wish is to capture a moment in time, the romance and nostalgia of time and space that abounds in nature."
